Kenpo Karete is arguably the best street Self
Defense Survival system on the market today.
The heart of Kenpo is self defense techniques
based on attacks and counter actions. This
natural and spontaneous action is a basic Zen
concept known as Wushin or Munin which when
translated means "No Mind" or "Or no thought".

What is Self Defense?

Kenpo, TeakwonDo,  and Juijitsu are different styles of self defense program.  Kenpo is a
Japanese or Chinese word meaning FIST LAW or the ART OF THE FIST.  Kenpo was a
Chinese Shoalin martial art known as Ch'uan Fa. Through hundreds of years of
refinements, Kenpo has arrived to the United States as a combination of Five Cultures:
Chinese, Japanese, Okinawan, Hawaiian and American.

In my opinion as an instructor, self defense is ability to take any style of martial arts and
make it practical regardless of what it’s called.  A uniform technique or  kata is good
training for reflexes, agility along with total body and mind coordination, as well as
awareness.

When actually applied for practical purposes in the time of need, your technique will not
look anything like it was taught or practiced during classes, the same goes for your
attacker.  But your daily training with your instructor in one to one classes will help you
go through different situation of attach which will help you find a practical application of
your self defense system using your  proper footwork,  hand forms to strike vital area,
and combined with a good kickboxing foundation will give you the edge over your
attacker.

Remember!  Your Self Defense program plus a good foundation of fighting basics, " may
one day save your or your families life”

'' WHAT IS SELF DEFENSE.''
                                             '' PHYSICAL    AND    MENTAL  AWERNESS''

These two qualities are important to use in everyday life ,and should be practiced by
everyone not just a Martial Artist.
Awearness in general, weather it is physical or mental will help , and give you a chance
to see trouble before it comes you're way. It will also help to set the proper response to
defend against an opponent or to avoid the confrontation by just being able to use
you're surroundings.

Physical Awearness .

This when you start to observe other people by looking , at their face, physical
appearance,and body mechanics,or body language.

A quick example of this would be, a parent observing their child. Just by looking at them,
mom, or dad is able to see when their child is hurt, upset, or is about to get themselves in
trouble.

The same kind of Awearness should be observed on all kinds of people, so you can train
yourself how to notice signs of anger, verbal confrontation, or physical contact. In order
to prepare yourself to avoid the situation, and stay in control.

Every person almost has the same physical expressions, or gestures when it comes to
being mad, sad, frustrated, or unhappy.
So we can learn allot by just paying attention to ourselves , and how we behave in
certain situations, and then compare to see what our reaction would be when compared
to someoneelses in a stress, or unstressed environment.
Here are some places where you can learn by observing others, supermarket,
shoopingmall, night clubs, or people walking on the street. Basically anywhere you go
where there are people be more observant, and aware of there physical action. make
sure you are also pay attention to you're self to see if you're assessment of their
behavior is correct, in other words see if you can tell what their going to do next, and if
the surroundings they are in have any affect on you're predictions.
A different environment could be amusement park,a bar or shopping for Christmas
presents.

Mental Awearness is very different. The way I like to explain what it means is by first
saying tat our minds work with whatever information we fill it with.
Everything we see, feel, taste, smell, or here puts images in our mind. Example on how we
become mentally aware if there is a fire we might smell the smoke, or recognize that
there's been a car crash by hearing an ambulance , or when we see someone crying a
general assumption is to see that they might be unhappy.
Mentally our senses alert us first before physical action takes place. We can these
senses anywhere , inside you're home or outside by just paying attention to different
sound, smells, by what we see not just in front, but also by using peripheral vision.

Closing Note.
Being able to use you're Mental, and Physical Awearness ability together is the real
challenge. When you are able to do both you might avoid trouble without verbal, or
physical action.
Don't forget to be awear of you're self just as much as you are of others.
